COMPETITION: Love on the Dark Side!

by Kristina LloydIt’s here at last! The one we’ve all been waiting for: Black Lace does paranormal erotica. Tomorrow sees the UK release of Love on the Dark Side (known affectionately as Man Tits), and we’re sizzling hot and spookier than you’ve ever known us. In this anthology, our imaginations have been let off the leash (huh, like they were ever on one) and we slide into the sinister to bring you sexy tales of vampires, werewolves, timeslips and witches, of shapeshifters, sorcery, spirit lovers and semen.

Well, that’s not an exact quote from the back cover blurb but that’s the gist. Love on the Dark Side features fifteen stories, over half of which were penned by Lusties. This is our biggest haul yet and that’s because we rock! To celebrate, we’ve got two super hot prizes on offer: a bundle of Black Lace novels from Lust Bites authors in Dark Side and a runner-up prize of a fistful of Quickies, mini volumes of shorts from BL collections. Both winners get a copy of Dark Side and the biggest stash of smut also comes with a special bonus prize of my friend, Bam Bam (right)!

Oh, okay. You don’t win Bam Bam. Sorry. Slave auctions are down the corridor, second door on the left. You do, however, win this amazing Lust Bites Monster Woman bag as modelled by the divine Bam Bam, looking sexy and sultry on Brighton beach.

To be in the draw, add a comment to this post and we’ll announce the winner in a week or so. But first of all, gather round, my lovelies. Pretend it’s a dark and stormy night, and check out these other-worldly openings from Love on the Dark Side.

What Witches Want by Mathilde Madden
‘You know the worst thing about being a witch?’ Lilith said, world-weariness chiming in her voice.
‘The clothes? The religious intolerance? The cackling?’ Cate didn’t really want to be drawn into one of Lilith’s circular conversations, but she didn’t dare completely bail out either. Not after what had happened during the coven meeting. Lilith was clearly not in any mood to be trifled with. As usual.
‘Men,’ Lilith said.

The Black Knight by Olivia Knight
Once upon a time, there was a hero of most unusual qualities, known as the Black Knight. He was as beautiful as the night, with long silky hair like the sky spangled with stars. His long limbs were as lithe and swift as a deer’s. On the battlefields, his bravery was famous, and every knight would rather fight at his side than anyone else’s. His quick eye, fast reflexes and dexterity with both sword and bow had saved many of his countrymen’s lives – and ended many of their enemies.

An Earthquake in Leamington Spa by Kristina Lloyd
I am having an affair.
There, I’ve said it.
Even the words make me feel giddy and alive.
I am having an affair!
Oh God, how he touches me: his big hand in the small of my back, his big arms carrying me to bed, his big cock moving inside me. Everything about Harry is big, even his heart. Especially his heart.

Stranger to My Shores by Sophie Mouette
He was behind me, hands on my breasts. I was braced against one of the benches as the hot tub bubbled around us and steam rose up to meet cold stars. It was spring on Cape Cod, and the parts of me that ended up out of the water must have been cold, but I wasn’t paying attention to anything except him, his thick cock in me, our bodies rippling together.

Lust for Blood by Madelynne Ellis
That night … The night my world screwed up, started with the same ghastly routine as every Friday night: work, pub, restaurant, club, trying to blot out the numbing emptiness of my life. The invasive greyness of Messers Cox, Cooks and Evans, accountants and soul-suckers, is what pushes me to these shallow pools of warmth and comfort. I knock back alcohol, gyrate with strangers on the dance floor, anything to rub away the feel of old paper and tweed.

Sun Seeking by Janine Ashbless
He had the most beautiful arse.
I’d seen a lot of naked backsides that morning, male and female, big and small, but one glimpse down the length of that hall took my breath away. It was … just awesome. Not a bum; bums are soft and round and a bit silly. There’s no muscles in a bum. Kids have bums. Women have bums, particularly when they’re worrying about whether their pants are too tight. Even builders have bums. This was emphatically not a bum. It wasn't a nearly non-existent student slacker rear either, or a slightly hairy squared-off male backside.
No, this was an arse.

The Shadow of Matthew by Gwen Masters
Alison opened the bedroom door.
It was a simple thing, opening a door that she had opened a million times before. So why did the knob seem to burn in her hand and why did the door open so slowly, like it was just as afraid of her as she was of it?

To Stand between the Wild and the Human by Teresa Noelle Roberts
I stood on the narrow beach and watched as the fishing boat motored away from Torishima, shrinking and finally turning into a speck on the blue-tossed horizon.
The boat had answered my distress call, and was now ferrying Akiko, my Project Albatross partner, off to the nearest hospital, some eighteen hours away.

* * *

Love on the Dark Side is special for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it looks like being the last anthology for a while as Black Lace launches a series of novella volumes, kicking off in November with vampire erotica from Kristina Lloyd (me!), Mathilde Madden and Portia Da Costa. Secondly, Dark Side brings us a sneak preview of characters from Tilly’s Silver werewolf trilogy, arriving in October with The Silver Collar. Tilly’s story in Dark Side not only has me hungry for the wolves, it also contains the line, ‘Come on, witch, suck my dick.’ Personally, I think that alone is worth the cover price.

Good luck everyone! Comment away.

You know, I woke up this morning dreaming of Plastic Pants Guy (!) and now this...
:-D

Kristina, your story in Dark Side made me cry:

And instead I was surrounded by great piles of rags and rubbish, and that sodding exercise bike I used to pedal for hours every week. Round and round, staring at the wall, and it never got me anywhere. The kilometres kept mounting and I never fucking moved.

I sank to the floor, head in my hands, and before long I was weeping like I hadn't done for years. All those kilometres and I'd never fucking moved.

Awesome.

A funny (to us, anyway) anecdote about "Stranger to my Shores": It was the first story we submitted to Wicked Words, back before they had themed anthologies. The then-editor (pre-Adam) loved the story, but said they weren't doing paranormal. However, she said, she'd hold on to it in case an appropriate slot came open.

Fast-forward almost four years later...we resubmitted it to Love on the Dark Side, and voila!

"Never give up--never surrender!"

Anonymous said...

I really loved that bit with the exercise bike too.

And Harry. I loved Harry.

On a different note, as well as Love on the Dark Side, also out today from Black Lace is the reprint of my swords & sandals & sex novel, Divine Torment!

There'll be an extract posted from this on the last Friday of August, but if you want a look at the new (& old) covers, or you want to know what a Japanese Black Lace Book looks like, step this way...

I am so glad BL are doing paranormals! I am going to spend all morning chasing werewolves round the Brazilian rainforest.

Ally said...

Oh I'm so filled with lust and greed. Shame on me.
I won last Friday and here I am panting for more.

I am currently reading the "Sex With Strangers" book that I won last month.
Thankyou Nikki M. for the inscription.

Oh and Tilly ... Damn! That was so fucking hot.
That's as far as I've read so far. I was in my apartment alone and it sounded like I was getting laid I was Oooing and Ahhing so much.

Ally said...

Ok one more before I go to bed.

Janine I checked out the link to your blog. Congrats on the reprint.

Then I got dizzy looking at the Minotaur and the chicks from Resident Evil and Angela.

I'll read the rest another time, I was sooo tempted. But its 2:30 am and I wrote over 3000 words today. Answered numerous emails and postings, wrote blogs ... aghhhh! I'm pooped. Fingers are too tired to play anymore today.

Anonymous said...

Oh. Thank you Ally.

That's Lust for Glory, isn't it in SwS? I do like that story.

Also, on Saturday I'm going to put up a longer snip of my Dark Side story. I am excited, because it is my first real outing for werewolf trilogy characters. So look out for that.

Janine Ashbless said...

Thanks Ally!
Now get some rest...

Portia Da Costa said...

Ally, there's one of my stories in Dark Side too... and it's weird, but very close to my heart.

Hope you'll enjoy it!

Congrats on the release. Great excerpts.

Janine, I'm really touched, thank you so much. And thanks too, Tilly. I actually made myself cry (happy/sad tears) when I wrote this story so I'm glad I'm not alone. (Weeping over my own porn - I know, it's terrible.)

I'm thinking of doing more with Harry and Ruth, the two characters in Earthquake. Well, I don't think I've got much choice, to be honest. They won't leave me alone.

And yes, it's brilliant that BL are doing paranormals and generally supporting writers who want to be creative and imaginative in their fiction. It's really exciting. It certainly revived my interest in writing erotica. I can't wait for the launch of the paranormal novella volumes. And Tilly's werewolves. And my puppets. And the shapeshifters ... and whatever else everyone is working on for 2008.

Janine, your tour of tushy terminology is a positively callipygian specimen of linguistic exploration.

Champagne cheers to all of you for the well-deserved success and exposure! You are hotter than hot (I'm using the term in the marketing sense, at the moment). I was in a fairly small U.S. bookstore last week, and they had some 20 or 30 BL volumes!

In my personal reading life, I've recently been exploring some of the Sex with/in/ands, saying "Ooh! I know her . . . and her . . . and her . . . ."

My spam word is fouikm.

Megan Kerr said...

This is probably my favourite Black Lace anthology; I love fantasy and read it voraciously, but have always felt there wasn't quite enough sex in it... Every story thrilled me, though I think Sun seeking probably dazzled me most. I'm usually skeptical about stories that start off with a woman seducing a woman - don't ask why, I don't know - and this one blew my silly assumptions out of the water. Wow...

To honour the occasion, and at massive personal cost to my sanity, I've put up an excerpt from The Black Knight on my (shameless plug alert) shiny new revamped website. Put the vamp back into revamp, say I.

The upload took about twenty million times longer than the actual redesigning, so I'm now going to go lie in the garden, fan myself with a large floppy hat, drink iced tea, and mutter aspersions under my breath - or just dream about sunseeking, witches, merpeople...

Oh, this sounds so good! What a great selection of bits - I just LOVE the bum v arse distinctions, Janine, beautiful!

Lookin' good, LBs. And what a terrific prize for those contributors who are not Lbs. It almost, ALMOSt, makes me wish I wasn't a Lustie...
but that's okay. I love the company I keep.

Oh, my god! Very odd choice of words because on Friday we have Charles Hodgson visiting to promote Carnal Knowledge, and although I had heard the term "callipygian" before, it had been awhile. Now, twice in twenty-four hours.

Very strange...

The book sounds devious and delightful, by the way. Can't wait to read all of your stories!

I really like this site...who wouldn't?

Angel said...

Mmmm...I love the picture of all those books.

Does it say something strange about me, that I get turned on by books almost as well as I get turned on by men?

t'Sade said...

Oh, yummy little covers and a haunting little chance to clutch at them with the greedy fingers of breathless anticipation.

Sommer Marsden said...

Okay, it's bad enough to be turned on by the books...which I am. But then you add the chains and it's worse. Whew. Someone is gonna be very happy...((crossing my own greedy little fingers))

Janine Ashbless said...

Thank you guys!

I wrote the "arse" passage inspired by Our Editor, who suggested that "arse" wasn't appropriate for a fantasy novel. Given that it's used by Chaucer I thought it had a fine historical ring (*ahem*)and dug my heels in for Burning Bright. But just the conversation inspired me... So there you go - anything at all can spark a smutty story!

Take a look here for the origin of Callipygian.

I came across the word only a month ago in Route 66 AD, which is about the ancient Roman tourist trail around the Med. A statue with a botty so beautiful that people would break into the temple at night to wank on her... Now that's what I call Culture!

Now I'm off with my Lust Bites T-Shirt on a limited publicity tour (3 fields in Oxfordshire). See you all on Sunday!

Deanna said...

You clever girls. Now when I get my copy I won't know which story to read first. What a cornucopia of choice I'm presented with:-

Werewolves, muscular male buttocks, vampires, muscular male buttocks, sorcery, muscular male buttocks, timeslips, muscular male buttocks, spirit lovers...Not that I've got a fetish or anything!

Did you base the buttocks on anyone in particular Janine? Perhaps GB?

Anonymous said...

Oooooohhh...pick me, pick me. the little blurbs leave me wanting much much more

Janine Ashbless said...

*nips back mid car-loading*

The specific buttocks are pictured next to the excerpt. (Delos museum, holiday 1993) Goddamn, now I've given it away...

And the man in the story is about as far from GB as I have ever written. See, I have range!

;-)

Kristina Lloyd said...

While we're on the subject, my story contains the line: 'Excuse my French, but I hadn't seen an arse that good for a long time. What else could I do but stare?'

Okay, so that's 2 lines. Arse is a great, robust word, and perfectly appropriate for fantasy. And as I've said before, Janine, your earthy use of the word 'bollocks' in Cruel Enchantment is perfectly, um, weighted.

Anyway, I got called a sexy wench. Comp's over. Dakota Rebel won.

Megan Kerr said...

If the Lusties can't win the books, can we at least win the chains?

There's something about a good round /a/ sound: arse, bollocks, cock...

Megan Kerr said...

P.S. sigh... It's impossible to do proper phonetic transcriptions with this font! Okay, I'll crawl back under my rock now.

Do you know the Monty Python "woody/tinny" sketch?

Megan Kerr said...

A Monty Python sketch I don't know? Gie us a link, Jeremy!

Here it is.

Ally said...

Does it say something strange about me, that I get turned on by books almost as well as I get turned on by men?

LOL Gwen,
Does it say something about the men I've known, that I get turned on by reading what's in the books, more than I get turned on by the men.

My Ex had almost no sexual appetite, (I have no idea how I fell in love), so when he saw me with a romance in hand he'd want to run for the hills.

But then when his appetite was too low I'd drop him off at the local strip club and tell him 'Have fun but "Please" bring me home a woody.'

Sounds awesome! Those other-worldly openings from Love on the Dark Side were such a tease. I want more!!! Would love to win.

Oh cool!!!! I didn't know they was going to do paranormals. Putting all of them on my wishlist now. I love paranormals. Love on the Dark Side sounds great!

Thanks for the teasers, you sure know how to leave a girl wanting more.

Shameless plea for more free smut! Pick me please!

OK, I love vampires, werewolves, timeslips (well, not quite sure what this is, but I ma sure I would love it too) and witches, of shapeshifters, sorcery, spirit lovers and (especially) semen. Pick me!

Unknown said...

Not keen on vampires. I mean I hyperventilate when I have to have blood drawn...even finger-pricked. But oh, how much I love that wonderful "Ode to Arse." Cocks are workhorses, but a firm, ripe arse with a flex toward hips is the eye-candy for weary woman's eyes. It's like the allergy drops -- clears your perspective and soothes your lust. Long after cocks quench it, the taut, delicious arse rests firm under your hand...oh, loved Henry too. EAP

Now look, when are you people announcing the winner? I keep coming back and seeing that picture. Who took that? It is sexy. Anyhow, I am getting tired of dancing around naked in the backyard shaking my chicken bones, hoping I can persuade the random number generator thingy...I am just asking. When did it say you would put us out of our misery?

And yes, yes, I know I am a writer and I know that I have won a book...but! my Magic 8 Ball says that this looks promising...and I believe in magic.

Good point, Sommer! Winners announced when we reach a hundred comments and I get lowered into a pit of naked rugby ... oh no, we already did that. Never mind. I'll settle for a mud wrestle with the guy in my Lust Bite pic, top right.

Okay, *two winners announced Sunday* while the blog is recovering from Tilly's first werewolf excursion on Saturday. Gawd, I hope they don't make a mess or eat anyone. I'll be quivering in a corner, waiting to be ravished - yes ravished - by werewolf hunter Blake who I'm already half in love with.

And thank you - I took the purdy books pic! I didn't take the purdy lady pic. That was a guy called Guy. (Thanks, Guy! Thanks Bam Bam!) And I must confess the chains aren't mine. 'Anyone got a nice, harcore, industrial sex prop that isn't broken?' I asked, and who should come clanking up the road, hair aglow?

Mind you, I'm not saying those chains are entirely in one piece ...

Angell said...

OOOH I hope I'm not too late for this one.

Paranormal is never somewhere I've considered going in my writing, but I just might.

After all, they climbed aboard their starship and headed to the skies...

RIGHT? *wink wink*

Unknown said...

Oh man, whoever wins this is going to be one lucky girl. Well, actually since there's two winners, it'll be TWO lucky girls!! I sure hope one of them is me- these all sound fantastic!!

Unknown said...

oOo!!! sounds great! I wanna enter, and now I have even more authors to check out!

Unknown said...

My copy arrived today from across the pond.
I had ordered it sight unseen - Amazon has ziltch on authors, titles of tales.

So it was a really really nice surprise.
Congratulations to all the lovely lusty ladies for an intriguing collection.
Many of my favourite BL authors and some new discoveries.
Googling around to find out more about them led me to this great blog site.

When can we expect round 2?

Kristina Lloyd said...

Thanks guys, and sorry to those who missed out. Comp has now closed. The winners were announced here - although we're still waiting to hear from Petricke so stick around in case we have to redraw for the runner up prize.

Round 2? Oooooo! I think a Hallowe'en competition might be quite exciting and vampiric!
