Mocha Monday... Come and chat.

by Madelynne Ellis

It's Monday already! How come these things always sneak up on me? The weekend that brought us Captain Jack Harkness in chains (once more with feeling: CAPTAIN JACK HARKNESS IN CHAINS) has flown away, and now without any warning it's my turn to post.

Ahem! Well, the purpose of this post is not just to admire men with muck on their faces, or in fact men in eyeliner. (If you haven't already voted in our sidebar poll, drift that mouse sideways right now and do so.)

It is in fact to let you know that myself (Madelynne Ellis), Portia da Costa, and any other lusties we manage to shanghai will be holding a Mocha Monday chat session over at the Romance Galleria at 9pm EST tonight, although we'll probably be there early. The official chat lasts for a couple of hours, but as the Galleria is a bit different to a normal chatroom. It's a virtual world where you get to walk and 'talk' with other visitors via your personal avatar, and explore a whole host of rooms. A bit like Doom, only without the demons...ish. To take part you'll need to download the Galleria software, and it'll take a little while... but it's easy to install and is perfectly safe and secure. I'm always cautious about downloading new software, but I haven't had any problems in 4 months. Fair warning though, to date it doesn't support Mac users.

Once you've downloaded the Galleria, you simply choose yourself an avatar and then enter the 'world'. Navigating is achieved using your keyboard's arrow keys. There's a chat window, and you can choose to have private conversations, or join in on debates with whole groups of people. Portia and I often hang out in the hallways, or our own PLUG private suite UNPLUG. The chat will take place in the cafe, so grab yourself an espresso (or something stronger) and stop by.

Oh, and did I mention that there'll be prizes? Including one very hard to get hold of first printing of my novel, A Gentleman's Wager, sadly out-of-print, leastways until February 2008. Meanwhile, I thought I'd leave you with a couple of teasers from two of the books we'll be discussing this evening.

From 'Eyes of Desire' by Portia da Costa.

Megan can't quite see properly at the moment... but she still knows what she wants when she hears and feels it.

Okay, no questions, she thought, turning off all rationality and reason and surrendering to "Guy" and the predication of her senses. His kiss became more demanding, almost ferocious, and she found herself answering in kind, her tongue fighting, duelling, twining with his, as her hand clutched at his shoulders, his back, and his hard, muscular buttocks through the lightweight cloth of what she was certain now was a pair of combat trousers. As he moved against her, his massive body both dominant and protective, the solid bulge at his groin brushed her thigh.

Oh God! Oh God! I think I'm going to fuck this man and I have absolutely no idea who he is and I don't even want to ask him. Feeling like a slut, yet not in the slightest ashamed of the fact, she surged against him, twisting beneath him and rubbing herself rudely against his magnificent erection.

"Hell, yes!" he murmured indistinctly against her mouth, rocking her against him with one hand while the other traversed quickly down her flank and her thigh, questing and exploring. He plucked at her light summer skirt, and wafted it quickly upwards. A second later, his fingers were stroking the edge of her panties, and then slipping under the elastic in search of her core.

The first touch induced a high, silvery, singing sensation between her thighs. His fingertip was huge, like the rest of him, but he flicked at her clitoris with a delicate and exquisite precision.

From 'Broken Angel', by Madelynne Ellis.
(One of three novellas featured in 'Possession'.)

Blaze Makaresh is being patched up having been attacked by demons.

Asha was tempted to slap him again, except she knew it was the poison talking. And considering his wounds and the amount of blood he'd lost, it was no wonder he was succumbing so easily.

She tentatively pressed her tongue to the first of the ten long gashes and licked. The mix of blood and poison tingled on her tongue. It tasted bitter, like Blood Rain, though the ripple of pleasure that flowed down her throat was sweet. She licked again, her tongue delving into the wound, and the taste became acrid. She spat it out, then returned to the wound again and began to suck.

Beneath her, she felt him tremble and his spine stiffen. 'Shh! she soothed. Her eyes closed. her nipples rasped against the inside of her bodice. Desire quickened between her thighs...

Doom! That game scared me so much I couldn't sleep for a week!

Hope you girls have lots of fun in Romance Galleria. Wish I could be there, but as you know, I'm barred.

Okay. You know how I used to say I didn't *get* it, with John Barrowman?

Got it.

It can't really come as a surprise to anyone that I prefer the Doctor to Jack Harkness (though it might surprise a few people to discover that I'm not dead after all - reports exaggerated etc.) Then again, Captain Jack in chains is a damn sight more fetching than a shrunken Doctor in a birdcage... And for all you bewildered Statesiders, this is our beloved Doctor Who, whose last episode of the season was on Friday... sniff, sniff

Ally, hope you do make it.

Nikki, I couldn't play Doom! it gave me chronic motion sickness.

Mat, I knew you'd see the light eventually.

Olivia, I'm enormously fond of David Tenant, but the chains won it.

There is only one Captain Jack, and his name is Sparrow...

Doctor Who ended in 1995 with lovely Paul McGann, and the Doc went off to live HEA with a randy widow in a book called THE STRANGER.

Well, that's what happened in my universe...

Oh, this sounds like so much fun! It's the first time I've ever been sad that I'm on a Mac. :(

Tell us all how it went!

XXX,
Alison

Mmm, chains. Sadly, it doesn't play that well with Linux either, so no chatting for I. But, those snippets were lovely and another round to add to my to-buy list.

I've been eyeing my daughter's dalliance in a chatroom where she has an avatar and gets to lounge in hottubs with other avatars...and now I have my very own invitation to attend a soiree.
Should I bring a bathingsuit? Or are they optional? I'll go download the program now and I'll be there tonight, with bells on...somewhere...you might not be able to see them but they'll be on.

I think Captain Jack is cute and sexy. It's probably the fact he lust after everyone that moves in the series that I find so great. Also John is very open about being gay but professes to love women which is somewhat of a conundrum and also sexy.
Anyway, I loved the last episode in the series, and the chains, but after a year I think his clothes would have become rather more shredded!
Wendy Captain Jack Sparrow is great too but I confess I've a soft spot for Will Turner as well.
See you all tonight.

Hey Deanna & Madeline, looking forward to seeing you there.

Ah, Alison and Nikki, we'll have to do it again some time. I understand they are busy working on a Mac compatible version for release later this year.

Also, they do Virtual Book Signings. How cool is that!

Okay I'm all signed up and I've picked my avatar (no bathing suits, only corporate suits, so I chose black). I'm not having a lot of luck navigating right now but I'll worry about that tonight.
I think this will be fun! ps, only because my communications get through faster here than on our private email site, is there an american address I can send a copy of WC to for the RWA giveaway?

Good morning all. Perhaps I should say good afternoon to most of you.

Please do tell me the correct time to show up at the Galleria, I live in Vancouver BC, yes I'm a Canadian West coaster, so what time for Pacific? 6pm? Thats what I've written down and I hope I'm not late.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as I can. I'm especially excited about meeting you Madeline. I began reading your book a few days ago while on holiday, (awesome blow job by the way!) I had hoped by the way you spelled some of the words and your Canadian references that you were indeed a Canadian Author. I was a Niagara gal most of my life.

As for the mascara men, I'm a Captain Jack Sparrow Freak! But then any dirty man would do...lol. I was married to a roofer and he rarely got to the shower after work before I was all over him. LMAO sniff sniff ...remembers the smell of sweat and shingle dust...(shakes head.)

Well that's my book for the day. See you all tonight. Sad though not to meet those of you who can't make it.

Yay, Ally, Madeline and Deanna, looking forward to meeting you tonight.

And yes, Ally, according to my calculations, 6pm your time is the right time.

Madeline, I popped into the Galleria a little while ago, and saw your avatar, but you didn't answer my hail, so I guess you were just 'parked'... :)

Madeline Moore said...

Hey Ally, I'm really looking forward to 'meeting' you too. I'm so excited that someone not connected to me is reading/has read my book. Yes, thanks for the congrats on my *prize winning* blow job!

I saw you eventually, Portia, but by then it was too late. I was there verifying my info... anyway I'm really looking forward to it, maybe in some way it will make up for not making the Dallas RWA scene!

I'm trying to get there but knowing my techno skills it could be a disaster!

Portia Da Costa said...

I will probably fall asleep half way through the chat, as I've been up since 3.30 am this morning.

Vincent Copsey said...

Hope you make it, Kate.

Don't worry, Wendy. We'll give you a prod. At least you don't need to worry about the fireplace in the galleria cafe!

Wendy's avatar has unnerving habit of standing a little too close to the flames!

What? No Richard Armitage in the 'eyeliner' poll?!!! It's a disgrace. There I was, ready to vote for him and his name wasn't even on the list! Had to go for Capt Jack Sparrow instead.

I have to agree with Portia...one Captain Jack for me Sexy Stud Sparrow.*g*

Hey, Monday night at the Romance Galleria was *fun*! Thank you for the invitation. I'm sorry I was so late arriving but it took me awhile to get the hang of moving around inside my avatar. Now, if we could only deck the avatars out in fetish clothing...that would be something! It was enjoyable, Portia and Madelynne, thank you.

OMG-I spent about half an hour banging into walls, got the time difference wrong and slunk off in mega embarrassment.
Was it fun?

Ally said...

I had such a blast at the Galleria, it was so much fun, and what a pleasure to meet all those there.

Thankyou so much Portia and Madelynne for your informative talks.

I'm so glad you finally showed up Madeline, late, but was great talking to you.

I can't wait to do this again.

Kate it was the same for me,just couldn't get the hang of navigating and also bumped into a lot of walls. It reminded me of a computer game I once tried to play under duress from my son. It involved a little blue creature running up and down roadways, and all I did was keep on killing him.
I'm going to try again and see if I can figure it all out.

Here's what I learned about getting into a room at the Galleria:

you are looking through the eyes of your avatar. (I wasted a good ten minutes thinking I was one of the bots on the screen.)

I need to update my video plug or something', all i could see was blue, whereas I was supposed to see real, defined, background. Maybe I'm not the only one with this problem.

hope that helps. It *was* fun, so it's a pity if people can't get in...better luck next time.
