And now for something completely different...

Portia Da Costa presents Black Lace Lolpets!

As a writer who's always looking for new ways to avoid writing, I spend hours surfing the web looking for new lols instead of doing what I'm supposed to be doing. But, after hanging out at sites like ICanHasCheezburger, Cat Macros and Stuff on my Cat every day, it was almost inevitable that I started making my own macros as a new and more elaborate form of time wasting. And living with [and being the servant of] three beautiful cats means I've lots of raw material.

So here, at the suggestion of Madelynne and Janine, and with the help of Teresa - and the gracious cooperation of our pets - are a selection of lols for your perusal...

Rumble and Noodle Roberts take up *a lot* of Teresa's desk!

Troy Ashbless loves to pose!

And so does Kuffer Da Costa!

More from Troy, stealing the limelight, and most of the couch, from his friend.

Makenshi Ellis inspects the foliage... with a view to eating it!

Or perhaps nervous... The state of the wallpaper has been discovered.

Mulder Da Costa seems unimpressed by her servant's best literary efforts and suggests a bribe.

Kuffer can be a hard taskmaster.

Alice Da Costa expresses her keen interest in her servant's profession. Not.

Pumkin Ellis shows off some subtle tones.

A critic points out shortcomings in Portia's work.

Rumble is far more constructive.

Tilly, friend of the Da Costa clowder, likes to call round for a snack and then recharge his batteries!

Tired of forever hearing how 'hard' writing is, Kuffer decides to give it a shot himself.

I'd like to apologise for the inconsistent lolspeak in these macros, but I'm still in the process of learning the language and there's a lot to absorb. :)

For other companion animal based time re-assignment why not try:

Cute Overload

The Daily Kitten

The Daily Puppy

The Daily Cute

Cats in Sinks

Kitten War

Disapproving Rabbits

Ramsey and Pablo

ps. if you have funny pix of your own pets on your web site or blog, please, please post links to them in comments. Even better if you have lols! You can make lols and macros quickly here... go on, have a go, you know you want to!

Njoi!

Wow, more fun ways to procrastinate by looking on the net!
Love the article, love my cat, now want to work out how to do pics of him like this - he thinks he's a star already, extra adulation will be happily received!

"Your artistic pretensions do not interest me."
I laughed like a drain - but then read the stuff on lolcat language and grammar and got freaked out. I had NO idea it was so involved.

Well of course it's hard to find time to write if you are learning a whole new language!

Glad you liked the post, Jade! I adore my cats and I'm addicted to lolcats. :)

I use photoshop, but I have tried out that macro generator I linked to, and that's quite simple to do.

Give it a whirl! I'd love to see some lolcats on your blog too.

Yeah, Janine, my cats are singularly unimpressed by my writing. As long as it keeps them in Whiskas pouches, prawns, ham, tuna, evaporated milk etc they're not bothered...

I could spend hours 'pawing' over the lol language, but even I can't justify learning it completely. I will just have to settle for speakin pijin lolcat... :)

"time reassignment" - man, what a phrase! I love the writing that's carp...

Wish I had a cat. I haven't quite sunk to posting amusing pictures of toys, yet, so I'll just have to admire everyone else's contributions!

These are great, but you didn't include the plot inconsistencies one, from your blog which makes me howl. I dare not look at the other sites you've listed, I get little enough writing done as it is.

Well, when I heard we we going to see pictures of Madelynne's Rabbits I was a bit worried...

Great post! I love LOLcats too, and have done several (but never had one published yet) - I wish I had a camera, my cats are often making disparaging faces when I'm on the pc all day.

What a hoot! Thanks Portia, I needed a laugh. I'll check out the sites you suggest as I have a very important big boy chocolate Siamese cat named Leo and he needs to be a star!

He has an unfortunate addiction to plastic, and can locate even the tiniest bit of it in my purse, or anywhere in the home. But his adoration (doled out on his schedule, not mine) is delightful and he allows me to admire his beauty as much as I like. Eyes so blue I swear I shoulda called him Frankie.

One of these days I'll master digital photos and macros and html and then - the world will be exposed to more Leo pics than it could possibly ever desire. Until then, your pets are adorable, Lusties. Happy weekend!

Thank you for starting my day with many laughs. You've succeeded in making my already silly pear-shaped cats even funnier.

What adorable furry children we have--and how well they distract us from work.

I love the recharging one. Makes me think I might be a bit quicker with my writing if I could plug into the mains and recharge myself now and then.

'time reassignment'... yeah, I liked that too! And alas, I'm really, really good at it. If there's a way to not write, I'll find it and reassign time to it!

If you have any teddy bears, they would make good lols too! And they are easier to pose than cats... :)

Yeah, Madelynne, I think the 'plot incunsistencees' is one of my classics. It was just karma that Tilly chose to plonk himself down in In Too Deep, just when I'd spotted some boo boos in it...

Portia Da Costa said...

Erastes! Please post your lolcats somewhere... perhaps on your blog? I would love to see them... I am totally addicted to cat macros. :)

Portia Da Costa said...

Madeline, Leo sounds gorgeous! Would love to see some pix of him, he sounds a complete doll! :)

Portia Da Costa said...

Yeah, Teresa, I particularly like the pic of Rumble staring studiously at the screen. It really looks as if he's scrutinising your text! :)

Portia Da Costa said...

Yes, I tittered when I saw that pic I'd taken of Tilly, with the laptop power cable apparently plugged into his furry butt. LOL

He was at the door a short while ago, but didn't get to come in because Kuffer growled at him and told him to piss off...

LOL Portia. I'm glad I'm not the only one completely addicted to the LOLCats, LOLdogs, LOLbunnies, LOLruses, etc. And I DO mean addiction!

Damn! I'm glad I wasn't taking a drink when I read that!

I LOVED these!
So funny-I think I need to learn this language more than I need to write that next book that is due Aug 15th!

Seriously-I have a big fat ginger cat called Jasper who is quite old-BUT he has been missing for 5 days now so please send good thoughts...

Dayle A. Dermatis said...

I have both LOLCats and Lust Bites set up as RSS feeds--now I apparently only need one! Awesome!

Portia Da Costa said...

Oh Bev... the lolrus! I love him... I nearly joined the bukkit support group the other day...

I'm a lost cause... LOL

Portia Da Costa said...

Oh Kate! So sorry to hear about Jasper... I will send good thoughts, and keep everything crossed that he turns up again really soon, well and happy.

Portia Da Costa said...

Hi Dayle... I think I have more lols and macro feeds than I do author/book ones.

And I check the cat ones several times a day anyway... :)

Is it any wonder that I'm not as prolific a writer as I should be?

Heheh - I love lolcats, and those pictures were so fun!

Portia Da Costa said...

Glad you enjoyed them, limecello! I can't stop lolcatting now I've started... :)

I love LOLcats. However, reading the comments on icanhascheezburger.com makes me want to pull out the grammar nazi spork. I mean, its cute on pictures, but do they have to comment in it!? Also, if you try to create a web comic using a character who only speaks in LOL, people bitch way to often *cough*.

But, those were adorable.

Portia Da Costa said...

Yeah, I have to agree, t'sade... I find the comments at ICanHasCheezburger really hard going and tend to give up after reading one or two. I love lolspeak for the actual macros, and sometimes to pepper it here and there in my blog for a laugh... but as a second language, not really! :)
